Corporal Billy B. Farris

Corporal Billy Farris, 20, of Bapchule, Arizona died on December 3, 2006 in Taji, Iraq of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated under his vehicle while conducting escort operations. Billy was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Billy’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge and the Army Service Ribbon. Billy received a lateral appointment from Specialist to Corporal posthumously.

Billy is survived by his parents, Elizabeth and Larry Antone, two brothers and three sisters. He also leaves an infant son, Kaiden Ray Farris and his high school sweetheart, Michelle Tritt (class of 2005).

Chemawa Indian School and the Daughters of the American Revolution have set up a $1000 annual scholarship in Billy's name. A memorial fund has been set up for the family through MAPS Credit Union or Chemawa Student Bank.
